India’s Daughter

I know I haven’t posted in a while, but after watching the documentary about Jyoti Singh, how could I not?

If you don’t know about India’s Daughter, I imagine you don’t use social media a lot.   It’s basically about this girl called Jyoti, who was smart, loving and was about to finish her education and finally become a doctor. One day, she was walking to a bus stop with her friend and she got onto a bus not knowing that it had 6 disgusting men on it who were about to ruin her life. They raped her, beat her and her friend up and chucked them off the bus onto the side of a road. Sadly, Jyoti died 2 weeks after the horrible incident.

Recently my Twitter timeline has been filled with tweets about the documentary and women’s rights and how some men in India are rather backwards in their approach to women.

It’s a rather difficult documentary to watch because of the extremity of the case and the makers also interview one of the rapists, their families, lawyers and their psychiatrists.
However, it is very interesting and the uproar that sparked after it was released showed that the majority of the public understand that what happened is totally unacceptable and those men are absolutely disgusting.

For a man to say that women are not part of society, that they should always stay home and do chores and cook is awful. It baffles me knowing that some people still have that kind of mentality, and it needs to change.

It’s absolutely despicable that you can’t find one slight piece of guilt or remorse on the faces of these evil men. A sign at one of the protests said “this is not Hindustan, this is Rapistan” the fact that the country is being branded as such just shows that something needs to changed. Drastically.
